The Navigli and Porta Genova area is very busy, and finding a parking space takes a little planning. Here are the most convenient options for leaving your car and enjoying the neighbourhood on foot.
Car parks
The most convenient and secure option is the guarded car parks in the Porta Genova area and along the ring road. They offer hourly and daily rates and let you leave your car for the whole stay without worry. Many allow you to book a space online.
Paid street parking
On the neighbourhood's streets, on-street parking is regulated by blue lines (paid parking). Payment is made via meter or dedicated apps. Always check the signs: some areas have time limits or are reserved for residents.
Park & ride: leave the car and take the metro
If you're coming from out of town, the most efficient strategy is to use the interchange car parks along the metro lines: leave the car on the outskirts, often at reduced rates, and reach Porta Genova by M2 in a few minutes, avoiding traffic and the city-centre limited-traffic zones.
Mind the limited-traffic zones
Milan's old town is regulated by Area C, the ZTL of the Cerchia dei Bastioni, where entry is charged. Porta Genova lies just outside this area, but the rules and times can change: before driving towards the centre, always check the up-to-date information on the official City of Milan website to avoid fines.
Once you arrive, the best way to experience the Navigli is on foot or by public transport. Leave the car in a guarded car park for the whole stay and get around with the very handy M2.
