Two days are ideal for a first taste of Milan. With Porta Genova as your base, superbly connected by the M2, you can plan an efficient itinerary that alternates great classics with authentic neighbourhoods.

Day 1: the old town

Devote the morning to the heart of the city: the Duomo and its panoramic terrace, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and the Teatro alla Scala. In the afternoon head to the Sforza Castle and Parco Sempione, then stroll through the Brera district, with its elegant streets and the famous Pinacoteca.

First evening: back to the Navigli

Head back towards Porta Genova and finish with an aperitivo on the Navigli, followed by dinner in the area. It's the perfect way to unwind after a full day.

Day 2: neighbourhoods and design

Devote the second day to the more contemporary areas: the Tortona District a stone's throw from the hotel, the Fondazione Prada for contemporary art and, if you have time, the Porta Nuova district with the Vertical Forest and Piazza Gae Aulenti.

Afternoon: the Navigli at a relaxed pace

End the weekend exploring the Naviglio Grande, the Vicolo dei Lavandai and the Darsena at leisure, perhaps with some shopping among the neighbourhood's craft and vintage shops.
